The Princess and The Frog Nails LouisI love movie characters who are full of energy and a little bit clumsy. Louis the alligator is definitely one of them, so I had to choose him as my first design for The Princess and The Frog Nails!!

Not so sure if you can tell, but I picked the scene that Louis swims up the river creating whirlpools with floating plants – I went “Wooow!!” when I saw that scene!

When I draw animation characters, I always paint the silhouette first and then add some colours on top, leaving the outlines of each part. It’s easier this way than trying to hand draw the skinny outlines.

 

For the sparkly background, I used Comet from Beyond The Nail which glistens like diamonds in the Sun – Too bad it’s not showing up so well in the photos!!

On my left hand, I have Ray and his big family of fireflies that are beaming in the forrest. I think I spent too much time and colours on this design and it ended up too complicated. I’m still learning how to balance between too complicated and too simple, hahaha!
